FTASA NEWSLETTER - MAY 2005

Hi everybody,

Our 2005 conference is all set, and you should be getting a registration form in the March "Packaging Review" or "Graphix” shortly.  The programme is set out in this newsletter for your convenience.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting will be held on 25th May 2005 alongside the conference at the Holiday Inn, Johannesburg International Airport.  It is scheduled to begin at 14H00.

MAPPP SETA MATTERS

The FTASA sits on the Printing and Packaging Chamber of MAPPP SETA as an interested party.  MAPPP SETA stands for "Media, Advertising, Publishing, Printing and Packaging Sectional Training Authority"

WORK SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAMME

At the recent Printing and Packaging Chamber meeting, we were informed that the Department of Labour (DoL) is in the process of altering the format of the form on which you have to present your annual "Work Skills Training Programme".  The new form should be available from the DoL sometime in April.

Because of this change the DoL have delayed the timing of submission from the end of June to end of September 2005 for the training programme for the fiscal year 2005/6

No submissions on the old forms will be accepted.

FLEXOGRAPHIC PRINT TRAINING

The SETA acknowledges that the existing learnership training programme for "Flexographic Printing and re-reeling" is in serious need for revision and is one of seven learnerships that have been placed on a list for urgent content revision.  However before this can happen the SETA has to have a "Standards Generating Board" in place and registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).  This is receiving urgent attention by the SETA Executive.  On registration of the SGB, the SETA will call for "Experts in the Field" to assist in the re-writing of the content of this learnership
